Best Things to Do & Where to Eat in Milos

Milos is one of the best islands in Greece for beaches. Crystal clear waters, swim-to caves, different varieties of beaches, great food, history, and an amazing coastline. We spent five full days exploring all that this beautiful island has to offer, and yes, it was our favorite island in Greece.

I definitely recommend making Milos one of your stops, we were here on our honeymoon and loved it. Here are some of our favorite things to do in Milos.

Top Things to Do in Milos

Boat Day to Kleftiko

A boat day is essential in Milos! Seeing the coast from the water is absolutely breathtaking. You can see all the different colors of rock lining the coast of Milos, hidden caves, some of the clearest waters, and you can go to some amazing swimming spots that you can’t easily get to on land, like Kleftiko.

You can either go on a group tour using Get Your Guide, or you can rent a boat from a local company. This is something we’ve never done before, we don’t really drive boats much, but my husband has a few times. We had strong north winds during our trip, so unfortunately our group tour got canceled. I didn’t want this to stop me, though, so we decided to rent a boat last minute with our two friends we met from Sweden, it was the best decision ever! It was a little difficult renting one last minute, but we found a guy and were able to use the boat for a few hours.

It’s super easy, they basically just teach you how to drive, anchor, and give you directions on where to go. They even let us test drive with the owner a few times before we left. We headed to Kleftiko; we only had a few hours, so this was really our only stop. I’m telling you, this was the best day ever. It was so fun having the boat to just us four, cruising along the coast, swimming in the clear water and around the caves in Kleftiko, it was the best. I highly recommend renting a boat with some friends or at least going on a boat tour!

Kleftiko is definitely the top spot you need to see in Milos. I recommend booking your boat/boat tour at the beginning of your stay so if you have bad weather, you can push it back.

Fyriplaka and Tsigrado Beach

Two separate beaches but essentially right next to each other. Fyriplaka is a long beach with crystal clear waters and awesome rock formations lining the coast. This is the beach you go to for room to lay out, swim, and maybe have some lunch.

Next to Fyriplaka is Tsigrado, which you do need to hike down through a tight space and go down a ladder to get to, but the views are amazing! What I loved so much about this beach was swimming to all the little caves, and the water was just extremely clear. It reminded me a lot of Croatia. There’s not a lot of space to lay out, so it’s not the beach to go to if you don’t want to swim.

Sarakiniko Beach

This is the moon-like beach in Milos that is so iconic! This is the best place for cliff jumping, which unfortunately we did not get to take part in because the sea on this side was super rough due to the north winds. But wandering over all the hills, groves, caves, and looking out at the sea crashing against the white cliffs was magical.

This is definitely a MUST-see in Milos. There’s not much shade here, so keep that in mind if you are thinking you want to spend a while here swimming and laying out, you may want to think again.

Fishing Villages: Mandrakia, Klima, Firopotamos

You should definitely check out at least one fishing village in Milos. You don’t need to visit all, but you might depending on what else you’re doing and where you are eating. We actually did see all three.

Mandrakia

We stayed in Mandrakia and absolutely loved the house we stayed in, the host was great. The fishing village was steps away from where we stayed. You’ll likely want to eat at Medusa, which is also just steps away.

Klima

The most iconic of the three. This fishing village is the largest, with the most colorful houses, which make for great photos. Just try to be respectful, as some people do live here or stay here. This is the one I’d recommend going out of your way to see a classic little fishing village.

Firopotamos

We actually stumbled upon this fishing village on our way out of Milos because I was trying to check out a beach. I didn’t realize there was a fishing village here as well! But we liked Firopotamos because of the purple rock on the edge of the cliff. The color was just amazing, there are also some old historic sites here and a beach. Definitely a cool spot to check out if you have time.

Ancient Roman Theater and Milos Catacombs

I’d recommend pairing this with Klima, as it’s practically on the way. Right outside of the town of Trypiti, you’ll find some pretty cool history. There are ancient sites and catacombs (you have to pay for this), but walking around the marble ancient theater is free. Toward the entrance, you’ll find the Venus de Milos statue, and then you’ll hike down from there. Fairly easy.

If you like history, I definitely recommend stopping here.

Watch the Sunset at Plaka Castle

It’s pretty hard to find parking in this area during sunset time, so make sure to arrive early! We pretty much missed the sunset by a hair, but still, the views were breathtaking. Almost 360-degree views of the island, and watching the sunset over the water and mountains is truly a lovely sight.

Explore Plaka

The main town in Milos, and also right where Plaka Castle is. There are many restaurants, shops, and bars here, plus classic Greek streets. An adorable town I’d definitely recommend visiting while in Milos, ideally paired with cocktails at Utopia Cafe and one of the restaurants.

Top Places to Eat in Milos

Yialos

Really great seafood restaurant in Pollonia on the water. The service was amazing, and it’s worth walking around the cute little town afterward.

O!Hamos!

A very homey, unique restaurant in Adamantas. Family-owned, handwritten menus, and food that comes literally from the backyard! Really good meat dishes and a beautiful setting. I highly recommend eating here.

Medusa

Probably the most popular on the island due to so many celebrities dining here, they have all the photos on the wall! I don’t believe they take reservations, but you can either come early or wait in line. We didn’t have any issues getting in, but we were here during the later season.

Beautiful setting right on the water. Good octopus, the tuna wasn’t the best, though.

Utopia Cafe

The sunset views from here are amazing! Highly recommend grabbing some cocktails here for sunset. Make sure to come EARLY, as it gets busy fast.

Honestly, anywhere you eat in Milos is bound to be good. Basically all restaurants are using fresh food, and that’s the key to a good dish!
