Renting a Vintage Jeep: A Day in Siargao, Philippines

We rented a pink vintage jeep through Island Cruisers in Siargao, Philippines and it ended up being one of our favorite experiences throughout our Philippines trip. In this blog, I’ll go over how to book, about how much it cost, and our itinerary for a day exploring Siargao.

How to Book a Vintage Jeep

You can simply message Island Cruisers on Instagram, let them know the dates you are staying in Siargao and what jeep you want to rent and they will send you info on availability, pricing, and rental time options. There were two options when I booked, 5:30am-8:30am or 9:30am-6pm. We chose the 9:30am-6pm option so we can really explore the island.

The 5:30am option would be great for people who really want the iconic photos, on more of a budget, or already have plans for the day but still really want to book a vintage jeep.

I know they plan to add more colors but when I was there the jeep options were pink, yellow, and green. They also had an adorable mint green but someone crashed it a few months back so it was being worked on.

Costs of Renting a Vintage Jeep

The pink jeep was the most expensive, for the self-drive 9:30am-6pm option it cost 6,500 pesos, plus there’s a hefty security deposit of 15,000 pesos and keep in mind they only accept cash for the deposit and remaining rental fee. When you book online they will send you a few options for a down payment deposit. The rest is due the day of, cash only.

6,500 pesos is a little over $100. It’s pricey but it’s also such a unique experience.

Then there’s gas to keep in mind, gas can be pretty expensive there. I forget how much we paid but I’d expect at least $20 or more depending on where you drive.

For the experience you get, I don’t think the price is that bad honestly. The security deposit is the most annoying part but as long as you drive safely and don’t act stupid, you’ll get that back.

If you’re concerned about driving, you can also hire a driver. The cost for jeep rental is the same but you will want to tip your driver at the end and a plus is the security deposit is about half of what it is for self-drive.

How to Pick Up Your Vintage Jeep

Island Cruisers is conveniently located right in General Luna so depending on where you’re staying you should be able to walk there or take a tuktuk.

You will need a driver’s license, cash for remaining deposit and security deposit, and your passport.

Once you arrive, you’ll sign some paperwork and they’ll take you on a test drive. The steering is a little funky on the vintage jeeps, so they just want to make sure you get the hang of it before taking off. If you fail, you’ll just have to hire a driver.

A Day in Siargao with a Vintage Jeep

This was our day to really get out of General Luna and Cloud Nine to see the rest of Siargao. The highlight was really cruising around this beautiful island, and the vintage pink jeep added to the tropical vibe, making it a magical, fun day for us. You could do something totally different from our itinerary and still have a wonderful time. Here’s what we did with our day in the jeep and what I’d skip out on or definitely do again.

Coconut Plantation Viewpoint

First, to get out of General Luna there’s really only one road, and on this road is coconut viewpoint. I do highly recommend you stop here. It’s just a quick stop, free, and you overlook the thousands of coconut trees.

Maasin River

This is also on the way out of General Luna and to the north. We actually decided to stop here last minute, I wasn’t really planning on doing this. I did enjoy the Maasin River, it’s very serene, peaceful and tropical, but I felt like it took too much time out of our day, about an hour and a half.

A lot of that time was soaked up by waiting for the “iconic photos” at the secret lagoon. Honestly not really worth it for me. If you want to spend some time on Maasin River, consider doing it on another day or skipping the secret lagoon. I think it took too much time out of cruising around in our adorable jeep.

Tigasao - Stairs of Heaven

Our next stop was recommended by our host, but I don’t really recommend coming here. I don’t think he realized the beach to the right of the stairs of heaven was recently purchased and now private property. Since we couldn’t get access to the beach portion there was a small rocky/beach area to the left we hung out on for 10 minutes.

It is very quiet, practically no one around, but in my opinion not really worth it. I’d skip on this.

Thankfully, it wasn’t out of our way to our next destination, Pacifico.

Trogon’s Perch

We stopped here for lunch, also recommended by our host and I’m very glad we did. There’s not a ton of options for food around here and Trogon’s Perch not only has good food but amazing views of the Pacific.

There is a spending minimum of 500 pesos per person but it’s easy to hit if you both get lunch. Trogon’s Perch is actually a hotel which is why there’s a spending minimum for non-guests. I would highly recommend stopping here for lunch.

Pasikon Beach

This was our final stop of the day and our favorite! You can either head here or Pacifico beach which is just shortly before. Pacifico will be better for surfing if that’s what you want to do.

Pasikon beach is private so it does have a small fee, around 80 pesos per person. In my opinion it’s totally worth it. It was a really beautiful beach, clear blue waters and rocky formations at both end of the beach. There’s not a lot of people here so it’s very peaceful and private. There’s also a swing hanging from a coconut tree that makes for some cool photos!

You can swim here for a bit, relax, and drink some coconut water the locals are selling. The beaches up north in Siargao are much better than the beaches in the south. This one in particular is beautiful.

We arrived at Pasikon at 3pm, and in order to get back in time to return our jeep we needed to leave around 4:30pm, really a little earlier, we did end up being late because I still wanted to take photos. Thankfully they didn’t charge us and were very kind when we returned.

The sun sets around 5:30pm here which is also why it’s important to get back before 6pm so you’re not driving in total darkness. I would have loved to have more time at this beach, I highly recommend coming here!

Where to Get Iconic Jeep Photos

There’s a few spots to get iconic jeep photos, I really love the roads lined with palm trees (which most are) but about 20-30 minutes from General Luna there’s some pretty good spots to pull over for photos.

I also liked the photos positioning the jeep in front of Pasikon beach, very tropical, beachy vibes. But the coconut lined roads are definitely top tier. The road is actually called Coconut Road, this is where you want to find a spot to stop for photos.

I also think the timing of doing photos at the end was perfect because we were able to catch the sunset behind us.

Other Options for Your Jeep Day in Siargao

Alegria Beach

Another beach I wanted to stop by but didn’t have the time was Alegria Beach, it’s at the very north of Siargao. Probably 20 minutes from Pacifico. It’s another beautiful, more quiet beach with less people.

Magpopongko Rock Pools

This spot is a popular destination in Siargao and it’s also on the way up north to Pacifico and Alegria. If this is something you’re interested in seeing definitely stop by. Make sure to check the tide, the pools are accessible during low tide. I believe there is a small entrance fee for the rock pools.

My Recommendation for You

  • Coconut Plantation Viewpoint

  • Pasikon Beach

  • Trogon’s Perch for lunch

  • Alegria Beach

  • Get photos along coconut road on the way back during sunset

You’ll definitely want to make your way up north because that’s where the beautiful beaches are. Sometime’s the best experiences come from last minute stops, so if you see something along the road that peaks your interest, stop there! That’s why it’s so nice just having the jeep to yourself and cruising along the island.

Even though I didn’t make it to Alegria beach I do think it’s worth stopping there rather than Maasin river or Stairs of Heaven. There’s some other different viewpoints near Alegria that might peak your interest.

No matter what you do you’ll definitely have a memorable day and leave with some iconic photos!
